Downtown Knoxville's Labor Day weekend closes out on Sunday, Sept. 6, with the Big Kahuna Labor Day Festival at World's Fair Park. The event is scheduled from 3 to 9 p.m. and, according to the World's Fair Park event listing, features "thousands of pounds of wings, including flavors from around the world."

What is on the schedule

Organizers bill the festival as a mix of food, competition and entertainment: cooking and eating competitions, kids' activities and live entertainment, capped off by what the listing calls the most comprehensive pyro-musical fireworks show around. The festival's title sponsor has been Covenant Health, according to event listings.

World's Fair Park, home of the Sunsphere, is a natural gathering place for large events in downtown Knoxville, with open lawns and a view of the skyline. The festival draws families, wing fans and fireworks watchers from across East Tennessee on the last big weekend of summer.

For future editions

Tickets, vendor lineups and entertainment details for the festival are posted by the organizers at bkwfestival.com. Because ticket prices and hours can vary from year to year, attendees are encouraged to check the official site before planning a trip.
