Dollywood in Pigeon Forge is set to open its newest signature ride, NightFlight Expedition, to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The park describes it as the world's first indoor family hybrid coaster and whitewater river raft ride, and at roughly $50 million it is the largest attraction investment in the history of Dollywood Parks & Resorts.
Previews and the delayed start
Silver, Gold and Diamond passholders who bought a 2026 Season Pass in the fall of 2025 can ride during previews from Aug. 15 through Aug. 18. The attraction was first slated to open in spring 2026; the park later pointed to mid-August and, in late July, confirmed the Aug. 19 public date.
The ride
According to Dollywood, riders "fly" at night over the Smoky Mountains, raft through more than 500,000 gallons of water, travel a mountain ridge on a roller coaster and boat across a mysterious lake. The experience uses amphibious ride vehicles, multimedia projections, onboard and off-board audio, and lighting effects. It was created by Dollywood, Herschend Creative Studios and Mack Rides.
Planning a visit
Fall is a busy season in the Smokies, and a new headline attraction is likely to draw crowds. Visitors can check Dollywood's official website for operating hours, ticket options and ride-access details before they travel, since wait times and availability can change from day to day.
